Welcome to Bloodroot!

I'm Beth Ann, a floral designer and horticulturist with a strong passion for sustainability, naturalistic design, and spreading joy. I love to get my hands dirty, cultivating beautiful spectacles and environments in which myself and others can flourish. But how did I start?

In early 2023, I was a long-displaced Carolina girl living in Indiana, holding tight to the dream of heading to the Appalachian mountains to start my own floral design career and small flower farm. I had worked for a local flower shop as a designer and social & business accounts manager, and I had been working for myself as an independent artist for years. I felt prepared for a shift, so I launched the floral design aspect, and began experimenting with a few flower beds in my small backyard. In 2024, I made the move back to my hometown in North Carolina in an effort to root this dream even deeper into reality. The growing is slow, but I'm thankful for sweet clients and exciting opportunities that continue to come my way as I complete my horticulture degree and make plans for my farm.
I’ve named Bloodroot after the Appalachian wildflower known for being one of the first blooms of the spring season. The plant itself has been used for dye, since its roots are bright red on the inside, and for medicinal use, though it can be toxic in certain amounts. I strongly identify this endeavor of mine with the symbolism of Bloodroot, a flower that is dangerous without proper care, that holds a boldness and a tenacity alongside its beauty. I'm cultivating this dream with tenderness and diligence, seizing opportunity when I can and remaining true to my end vision. So, it’s a ~whole thing~ and I’m excited to share it with you.
